Meet Sharkie
Fans of the Sharks were in for a fantastic surprise on Friday when the new 3D SHARKIE was revealed at Kings Park. The Sharks ‘running man icon’ that forms part of The Sharks logo device is The Sharks official mascot and has undergone a superhero three dimensional transformation!
Here at Sunrise we are proud to have been given the opportunity to transform Sharkie into a character that really identifies with kids (and adults!) in the 21st Century. It has been fantastic working with The Sharks and we’re excited that they can see how animation really does have the power to cross age, cultural and race barriers better than any other medium.
To introduce Sharkie in his 3D format to fans young and old we have created an awesome 1 minute animation showing him in action at his home ground. This, together with how the animation was created is being broadcast on TV shows across South Africa, and the animation will be playing in 3D Stereoscopic at all NuMetro cinemas countrywide.
Mike Ablett, Marketing Manager at The Sharks, says “One of the most important benefits of Sharkie to The Sharks is that he is the ideal tool to promote The Sharks and the game to young people and to grow the amazing talent that we have in this country. Sharkie is always positive about life and rugby and he is a true brand ambassador, promoting a healthy way of life and playing rugby in a safe and fair manner. He has a big heart and brings with him all the power and passion of The Sharks brand.”
As Sharkie bursts into 3D life, he brings with him branded apparel and merchandise, to be rolled out over the next few months in retailers countrywide. Fans will see a host of fun Sharkie-inspired goods including apparel, plush toys, bed linen, back-to-school ranges, rugby balls, and many other items. In addition to this, Sharkie will be making appearances at Mall Shows, involved in QSR promotions and a host of other activities to engage with his fans.
Sharkie’s first appearance to the public will be at his home ground (Mr Price Kings Park) on the 16th July 2011 when The Sharks play the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup. Fans can see him again the next day at La Lucia Mall where he will be making a special appearance with some of the Sharks players. Also make sure to watch Top Billing on the 26th July for a special piece on Sharkie.
