Jungle Beat Shines

We have just completed the latest episode of Jungle Beat and with it a new character joins the fold. Firefly! We’re delighted with how the episode has turned out, it’s the first time Jungle Beat has a real jungle, hooray! This is the seventh episode created so far for season 2 of Jungle Beat, six more to go. If you can’t wait for them all to be finished then you may want to catch a movie in 3D at Nu Metro in March, because the Firefly episode will be playing in front of the main features then. We’ll give you a heads up closer to the time as a reminder, but here’s a pic from the episode to whet your appetite in the mean time.

Now We’re Styling!

Great news! The Jungle Beat 2011 Style Guide is finished. Why is this good news? Despite the fact it means that Mark can get some sleep it also means fresh new material for licensees to create some awesome new Jungle Beat merchandise. This Style Guide includes more new characters from Season 2 – Elephant, Firefly and Chameleon as well as loads of new patterns, backgrounds, fonts etc, etc, etc…

For those of you unfamiliar with Style Guides and their role it’s basically the visual rule book for a brand. It contains all fonts, colours and images associated with a brand with instruction on what can and can’t be done within that. It’s a way of us making sure that all Jungle Beat products feel like Jungle Beat products.

So here’s to some exciting and inspiring new stuff!

TOYS TOYS TOYS

We have just received a batch of Jungle Beat plush toys to give comment on before the final production run. Needless to say this was fuel for a lot of fun around the office. The toys are popping up everywhere. In fact take a look at the video clip for a rare sighting of Warthog. YouTube Preview Image

If all goes to plan the toys will hit stores some time in April. We’ll keep you posted!

Broken foot doesn’t mean no brakes!

Well it’s a brand new year and apart from Mark needing a hair cut, we’re ready for 2011. Phil our producer broke his foot over the holidays, some may think he’d take his foot off the accelerator a bit, but it’s more in his nature to not hit the brakes with it so we’ve hit the ground running (figuratively because in reality he’s limping.)

There are big things in store for Sunrise this year, the 2011 Jungle Beat style guide will be shipping to retailers and licensees in 2 weeks, which means loads of brand new Jungle Beat toys, games and clothes will be launching! This year will also mark the long awaited completion of Jungle Beat Season 2, hooray! Speaking of which each new Season 2 episode we complete will be screening in 3D in Nu Metro cinemas throughout South Africa before their major family feature films. We’re also steaming ahead with Bokkie aiming to do new animated adventures with new clothes and products springing up 11, 14 and 12 (that’s left, right and centre for those non-rugby people out there.)

And most importantly 2011 will have more epic staff frights than ever before, should be fun. AAAH! What was that?!

We made a commercial. It’s on t.v. The actual t.v.

This is an advert we did for Ackermans which combines live action and animation. Why is that exciting? Because it’s the first time we’ve shot and integrated live action and animation. But it won’t be the last, oh no! We had a blast shooting it, even though it was pretty much just an empty store at night it was still fun. The main challenge was creating CG (computer generated) clothing that matched the real clothes we shot in store. See if you can spot what’s real and what isn’t. Even if you missed the commercial, you can still buy the clothes, unless they’re sold out, in which case ignore that last statement.

Hello and Goodbye

Kirsty's moving on up

The other day at the Sunrise Christmas Holiday party, Phil chatted about each person’s contribution to Sunrise. That’s when it got real. Kirsty’s leaving?! 2010 brought us awesome people–Brad, Rudy, Christine, Nicola, Garshwin, Brad again. We’re lucky that people like to work here. No, like, Really. Love. To. Be. Here. There’s some kind of Sunrise what the French call ‘I don’t know what.’ Magnetism. Anyway, Kirsty is in pursuit of More. Read more

Their excitement is OUR excitement! South African Rugby Union

We heard that SARU was nominated in the Best Integrated Sport Marketing Campaign category of the 2011 Virgin Active Sports Industry Awards. Why is Sunrise excited?? We celebrate their nomination because we love rugby. And because we designed the mascot and 3D animation, which they…integrated. (For more on the big idea, click here.) It’s just so exciting to see a Sunrise idea catch fire and spread. The Springboks have gone totally Bokkie mad, and it’s awesome! We’ll wait with anticipation for the announcement of the winner on February 17, 2011. The Sport Industry Awards, in their 8th year in the UK, have been called the Oscars of the sporting world. It might be fair to say then being nominated by association(!!) is taking us one step closer to achieving one of our dreams: an Oscar. Just letting you in on the secret…
